About Us

Welcome to the University of Arizona chapter of Alternative Breaks. Alternative Breaks is a student run organization dedicated to "constructively impacting lives through direct service, education, reflection and cultural awareness with the overall goal of encouraging a life-long commitment to the global community" as per our mission statement. In short, Alternative Break provides the opportunity for its' members to participate in meaningful service oriented trips as an alternative to the more popular leisure oriented venues. The program here at University of Arizona is a local chapter of a nationwide program known as Break Away, an organization based at Florida State University.

History

Alternative Breaks has been a completely student run, organized and funded community service club that was initially founded in 1994. Since then it has become part of the University of Arizona's Center for Student Involvement and Leadership (CSIL) but is still entirely in the hands of students. Without the hard work and dedication of countless students Alternative Breaks would not exist.

Mission

To constructively impact lives through direct service, education, reflection, and cultural awareness with the over all goal of encouraging life long commitment to the global community through organization of Spring Break trips with the triple foci of community service, education, and reflection.
