  • Dear Students and Faculty Advisors,

As Secretary General of the University of Arizona's Model United Nations Conference, it is my privilege to cordially invite you to our 46th Annual Conference "Will Work for Peace" on March 21-22nd 2008.

Arizona Model United Nations (AMUN) is one of the oldest high school Model United Nations simulations in the world and also one of the most unique. In addition to having a diverse and international mix of attendants, we also host committees in both English and Spanish. This year, we are expanding our conference to include two all-Spanish language committees as well as a specialized, by application, historical committee.

This year's annual conference theme, Will Work for Peace, illustrates the need for persistence, diligence and enthusiasm on a variety of levels to ensure justice and harmony in our ever changing world. The United Nations and its member nations must strive for peace through action and stand by the fundamental human rights and promises they set out to achieve. We, as members of the global community, similarly must commit to peace through understanding. By learning about the complicated and pressing issues facing the world today, we are best prepared to become active and engaged individuals.

Peace is not just an abstract concept; it may not always be the status quo, but it should never be seen as the exception. We must all embrace the challenges that it often takes to reach peace. At AMUN, we believe awareness provides the tools necessary to make peace a reality. We focus on providing quality simulations to encourage students to gain insight on the world's most difficult challenges.

In addition to the conference itself, AMUN encourages students to explore the University of Arizona over the weekend. Our dedicated and eclectic staff, whose interests range from international relations to biophysics to theatre arts, is open and enthusiastic to introduce you to the excitement of campus life.

I hope that you can all join us for our conference and I look forward to meeting you in March.

    Best Regards,

    Christina Jelly
