  • Constitution of the Arizona Anthropologist (Ratified January 15th, 2003)

    Article I-Name
    · The name of the organization shall be the: Arizona Anthropologist.
    · The organization is a student organization at the University of Arizona.

    Article II-Objectives
    The objectives of the organization shall be:
    · To provide a forum for the sharing of anthropological thought and research among students and faculty within and between Arizona universities.
    · To provide students with an opportunity to learn about and gain experience in professional writing, editorial practices, the peer review process and publication.

    Article III-Membership
    · Any student of The University of Arizona is eligible to be an active member and may hold office.
    · Non-students may act as associate members, but may not vote or hold office.

    Article IV-Officers
    Election of Officers:
    · The officers in this organization are Chief Editor, Assistant Editors, Layout manager, and treasurer.
    · Officers will be elected by written ballot, with each active member casting a vote. A majority of votes will constitutes a victory. · Election of officers will take place during the 3rd week of the fall semester.
    · Officers will assume office for the period of one year.
    Recall of Officers:
    · Officers are subject to recall for malfeasance in office.
    · Recall procedures will be initiated at the request of five active members.
    · A hearing will be conducted at a regular meeting for the presentation of evidence from all concerned parties.
    · A majority of those active members voting in a recall at the end of the hearing is necessary to remove any officer.

    Article V-Voting
    · The constitution and the by-laws may be amended by a 2/3 majority vote of those voting, a quorum being present.
    · Voting on amendments must be conducted after a minimum notice of 2 weeks.

    Article VI-Not-for-profit Statement
    This is a not-for-profit organization.

    Article VII-Statement of Non-discrimination
    This organization shall not discriminate on the basis of age, color, ethnicity, gender, national origin, disability or handicap, race, religion, sexual orientation, Vietnam Era veteran status. This policy will include, but is not limited to recruiting, membership, organization activities or opportunities to hold office.

    Article VIII-Financial Obligations
    · A majority of voting members of this organization may determine reasonable dues and fees assessed to each member at the beginning of each semester.
    · A specific member or members, designated by this organization shall be responsible for payment in full of all debts accumulated by the organization not covered by funds on deposit.

    Article IX-Statement of Non-Hazing
    This organization will not conspire to engage in hazing, participate in hazing, or commit any act that causes or is likely to cause bodily danger, physical harm, or personal degradation of disgrace resulting in physical or mental harm to any fellow student or person attending the institution.

    Article X-Statement of Compliance with Campus Regulations
    This organization shall comply with all University and campus policies and regulations and local, state, and federal laws.

    By-Laws for the Arizona Anthropologist
    I. Cabinet.
    · The Chief Editor shall:
    o Coordinate all activities of the organization.
    o Serve as liaison to the University community.
    o Function as the official representative of the organization.
    o Call regular and special meetings.
    o Preside at meetings.
    o Prepare agenda for meetings.
    o Solicit manuscripts for inclusion in journal.
    o Organize review process.
    o Edit
    · The Assistant Editors shall:
    o Assume duties of the president, when necessary.
    o Assist president in coordinating activities.
    o Coordinate publishing.
    o Edit.
    · The Layout manager shall:
    o Maintain accurate and current information of the organization and membership.
    o Assist president and vice-president to coordinate organization activities.
    o Keep accurate minutes of each meeting and forward copies to other officers.
    o Keep attendance records for meetings.
    o Design journal layout.
    · The Treasurer shall:
    o Serve as liaison to ASUA for the purpose of organizational funding.
    o Maintain accurate and current account of all organizational funds.
    o Be responsible for dispensing of funds in accordance with goals and programs established by the organization.
    o Solicit subscriptions from institutions.

    II. Meetings.
    · Meetings will be open to all organization active and associated members, faculty, and Student Programs representatives. A minimum notice of two weeks will be given prior to all meetings, which are scheduled to be held on the 3rd Monday of every month. The meetings are to be organized and controlled by officers and active members.
