- Feeding the Hungry (Twice a Week)
- NOTE: The dates have changed once again due to scheduling issues and we will be doing Feeding the Hungry on Fridays and Sundays, not Mondays.
- Serving dinner to the homeless at the Holy Family Church
- Every Friday from 6 – 7:30 PM
- Every Sunday from 3:30 – 5 PM
- Meet at the flagpole at 5:45 PM on Fridays and at 3:15 PM on Sundays
- Beads of Courage
- Beads of Courage is a non-profit organization that sends bead kits to hospitals all over the country to benefit children who are fighting cancer, cardiovascular disease, or severe burns. For each medical procedure that a child undergoes, he/she receives a bead to represent his/her journey through treatment. It is now at 35 hospitals around the world and has a new store on Broadway!

- Guest Speaker – Sara from the Wildcat Charter School
- The Wildcat Charter School is a middle school in Tucson with which the University of Arizona College of Education works. We hope to continue our journaling/pen pal program this year. There are also tutoring opportunities on Wednesdays and mentoring opportunities on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Contact Danette Schwartz at danettes@email.arizona.edu if you are interested in more information about getting involved. Kiwanis will be starting a Builder’s Club at the Wildcat Charter School in the Spring!
- Guest Speaker – ASUA Senator, James Pennington-McQueen
- ASUA is the Associated Students of the University of Arizona. The have a program called Safe Ride, which provides students with a free ride on or around campus after dark. The phone number is 621-SAFE. For more information about ASUA, go to http://asua.arizona.edu.
- Dues
- In order to be recognized as a member of CKI and to participate in our events, you must pay your dues. Dues go to the district and international levels of CKI and provide you with insurance in case you get hurt at an event. You will also receive a membership card, pin, and handbook. We will be holding an official induction ceremony for dues-paid members later this fall.
- Dues are due by September 26 and are now $33. If you cannot attend meetings, please contact Jordan Eells at jeells@email.arizona.edu to make an appointment to pay your dues!
- T-Shirts
- T-Shirts are $12. If you would like to buy one, please sign up and pay within the next two weeks.
- Fall Rally – Jennifer Phillips
- Each fall, CKI members are invited to attend Fall Rally, a district event that takes place at Kamp Kiwanis in Vanderwagon, New Mexico. This year it will be held from Friday, October 19 through Sunday, October 21 and the theme is “Sentenced to Service” – a prison theme. If you are interested in going, the cost is $45 dollars, which includes lodging and food for the weekend, and you must register online. Your decision is required by next week.
- Committee Chair Elections
- Would you like to become more involved in CKI? We will be electing Committee Chairs for Fundraising, Service, Social, and Kiwanis Family Relations during the meeting on October 3. Nominations will be next week during the meeting and again before the elections. Danette Schwartz will be sending the job descriptions over the listserv this week.
- Y.E.S.
- There will be a meeting of the Y.E.S. Committee directly after this meeting.
- Tri-Delta House of Pancakes
- There will be all you can eat pancakes for $5 at the Tri-Delta House on Friday, September 29 from 11 PM until 3 AM. All proceeds benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
