Deutscher Studenten Club

 

Constitution 

             I.      Article I: Name

a.       The name of this organization shall be: Deutscher Studenten Club. As an acronym, it may be referred to as DSC. The DSC is a student organization at The University of Arizona.

          II.      Article II: Objectives

a.       The objectives of this organization shall be:

                                                              i.      To promote interest in German language, history and culture.

                                                            ii.      To provide fellowship among students and faculty, as well as with the community.

                                                          iii.      To represent students' needs and wants in regards to furthering student knowledge, language and cultural awareness.

                                                          iv.      To provide a forum for the presentation of innovative ideas to enrich the university community.

                                                            v.      To bring together students, faculty and members of the community with a common interest.

       III.      Article III: Membership

a.       Any student at The University of Arizona is eligible to be an active member and may hold office.

b.      Non-students may act as associate members, but may not vote or hold office.

c.       There are no requirements for membership.

       IV.      Article IV: Officers

a.       The executive board consists of all officers.

b.      Election of Officers:

                                                              i.      The officers of this organization shall include president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, Web master and Schildträger(in).

                                                            ii.      Officers will be elected by secret ballot. A majority of votes will constitute a victory. No quorum of members need be present for an election.

                                                          iii.      Elections will take place in the last month of the spring semester.

                                                          iv.      Officers will assume office for the period of one year beginning the first day after the last day of final exams in the spring semester.

                                                            v.      If an officer resigns or is recalled, an interim election will be held with two weeks notice, following the procedures of the regular election.

c.       Recall of Officers:

                                                              i.      Officers are subject to recall for malfeasance in office.

                                                            ii.      Prior to recall procedures, the organization's advisor may address the problem with the officer.

                                                          iii.      Recall procedures will be initiated at the request of five active members or the organization's advisor.

                                                          iv.      A hearing will be conducted at a regular meeting by the organization's advisor for the presentation of evidence from all concerned parties.

                                                            v.      A majority of those members voting in a recall at the end of the hearing is necessary to remove anyone from office.

d.      Faculty Advisor:

                                                              i.       The faculty advisor serves as a liaison between the DSC and the Department of German Studies.  

                                                            ii.      The faculty advisor will provide advice for the executive board as needed.

          V.       Article V: Amendments

a.       This constitution and by-laws may be amended by a two-thirds majority vote of those voting; a quorum must be present.

b.      Voting on amendments must be conducted with a minimum notice of two weeks.

       VI.      Article VI: Statement of Non-Profit

a.       This organization is a not-for-profit group.

    VII.      Article VII: Statement of Non-Discrimination

a.       This organization shall not discriminate on the basis of age, color, ethnicity, gender, national origin, disability or handicap, race, religion, sexual orientation or Vietnam Era veteran status. This policy will include, but is not limited to, recruiting, membership, organization activities or opportunities to hold office.

 VIII.      Article VIII: Financial Obligations

a.       A majority of the executive board of this organization may determine a reasonable activities fee assessed to each member at the beginning of each semester.

b.      A specific member or members, designated by this organization, shall be responsible for payment in full of all debts accumulated by the organization not covered by funds on deposit.

c.       Any spending of funds or reimbursement must be approved in advance by the treasurer and properly documented. Receipts will be kept by the treasurer.

       IX.      Article IX: Statement of Non-Hazing

a.       This organization will not conspire to engage in hazing, participate in hazing, or commit any act that causes or is likely to cause bodily danger, physical harm, or personal degradation or disgrace resulting in physical or mental harm to any fellow student or person attending the institution.

          X.      Article X: Statement of Compliance with Campus Regulations

a.       This organization shall comply with all University and campus policies and regulations, and local, state and federal laws.

         XI.      Organization By-Laws

a.       Executive Board

                                                              i.      President

1.      Coordinates all activities of the organization.

2.      Acts as liaison to the University community.

3.      Official representative of the organization.

4.      Calls regular and special meetings.

5.      Presides at meetings.

6.      Prepares agenda for meetings.

                                                            ii.      Vice President

1.      Assumes duties of president when necessary.

2.      Assists president in coordinating activities.

3.      Liaison to the department of German studies on scholarship issues.

4.      Coordinates special events (e.g. parties).

                                                          iii.      Secretary

1.      Maintains accurate and current information of the organization and membership.

2.      Assists President and Vice President to coordinate organization activities.

3.      Keeps accurate minutes of each meeting and forwards copies to other officers.

4.      Keeps attendance records for meetings.

5.      Responsible for membership recruitment.

6.      Publicizes activities and meetings.

                                                          iv.      Treasurer

1.      Liaison to Department of Student Programs and ASUA for the purpose of organizational funding.

2.      Maintains accurate and current account of all organizational funds.

3.      Responsible for dispensing of funds in accordance with goals and programs established by the organization.

                                                            v.      Web master

1.      In charge of updating and maintaining content on the organization official Web site.

2.      Administrates official organization E-mail account.

3.      Administrates organization Listserv.

                                                          vi.      Schildträger(in)

1.      Keeps and cares for the organization Schild (sign)

2.      Brings the Schild to meetings and Stammtisch

3.      In charge of organization advertising

4.      Meetings

a.       Meetings will be open to all organization active and associate members, faculty, visitors and Department of Student Programs representatives.

b.      A notice of at least two (2) days will be given prior to each meeting.

c.       Meetings will be organized and controlled by officers and active members.
