Mr. Shatz studied as an
undergraduate student at the
University of Arizona with a major
in Oriental Studies (East Asian
Studies) and a minor in Business
Administration. Then, he went to
graduate school at Thunderbird and
focused on Japan and Marketing.
From there, he worked in the sister
city of his home town as a director
of a private English academy for 18
months, and found a job in Tokyo
with The Nomura Securities Company,
Ltd.

three years. He translated from
Japanese into English company
reports of Japanese companies listed
on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Then Mr.
Shatz transferred to the Los Angeles
brokerage subsidiary for four
years. He sold the research to money
managers on the West Coast and was
involved in a number of strategic
partnerships between Nomura and US
entities.
After
seven years with Nomura, he quit to
set up his own company, Flex
International Ltd. This company
finds investors and invest in start
up and microcap companies.
Finally,
two years ago, Mr. Shatz teamed up
with a retired IBM executive to
establish a non-profit organization
called International Trade
Development Center. Their mission is
to help build international
competitive advantage for Southern
Arizona by identifying, evaluating,
and developing its unique
intellectual capital.
