submission guidelines

Our first submission deadline for the 2010/2011 issue is December 1st, 2010.

Writers who submit by this deadline may possibly get feedback on their work if they want it. YOU MUST REQUEST FEEDBACK IN ORDER TO RECEIVE IT. NOT EVERYONE WHO SUBMITS BY DEC. 1ST WILL RECEIVE FEEDBACK.

We are looking for the following:

Fiction, Poetry, Creative Non-Fiction (Memoirs), Screenplays/Short plays/Monologues, Song Lyrics, Photography, Artwork, Color or B&W reproductions of 2D and 3D art (ceramics, paintings, sculpture, drawing, etc.), Fashion pictures/drawings, Comics, Miscellaneous Artwork/Creativity, and Short Films.

To Submit:

I. You must be a University of Arizona undergraduate student attending the University during the semester in which your work is submitted.

II. Turn in your submission to the English office in Modern Languages 445, specifying that it goes into the Persona mailbox.

III. All writers/artists must include one cover page with your submission(s) with your name, email address, phone number, year in college, major and a classification of your piece(s) (i.e. poetry, fiction, photography, etc.)

IV. To submit writing:

Written works maximum 10 pages (double space, 12 point font).
Nothing will be returned unless you include a SASE.
Previously published work is eligible for submission (unless, obviously, the work was in a previous issue of Persona).

We MUST have TWO hard copies AND CD (compact disc) of all written works. The only exception to this is if you are studying abroad and need to email in your works. Please contact us before submitting this way.
There is no limit to the number of art, fiction, or creative nonfiction submissions. There IS a limit for poetry: please do not submit more than TEN poems.

Poetry should be submitted in the form and style in which it would be published.

V. To submit art:

DO NOT submit your actual physical piece (painting, sculpture, etc.). We must have digital files as detailed below.

All artwork must be submitted directly to the design team

Email your art submissions to (UApersonaMAGAZINE@gmail.com).  All           submissions should be 72 dpi (screen resolution) in either .pdf or .jpg and should be no larger than 1MB in size. Thereis no limit to the number of pieces you can submit, but keep them to your best work! Please include your name, year, and media/style, if not obvious.

             OR

If artists have any questions, please contact Art Director Bobby Long at (rjlong11@email.arizona.edu)

Work which is selected for the magazine will need to be resubmitted as a 300 dpi file.

Artists are also encouraged to include a brief artists statement on themselves or the work they are submitting.

VI. DO NOT put your name or any other identifier (e.g. email, student ID number) anywhere but on the cover page.

VII. DO NOT include on the cover page or on any work, identifiers such as social security number, cat card number, or student ID number. Besides endangering your privacy, placing identifiers on your works makes it more difficult for the selection process to remain anonymous, fair, and unbiased.

VIII. You will be notified of selection in late spring. Contributors receive one copy of the magazine and are invited to read or display their works at our annual release reading near the end of the Spring semester.

***This year there will be a feedback process between our editors and the authors. The Editing Committee will review pieces upon request and send back helpful ideas to the authors about ways to make the piece stronger. The authors will then have the option to resubmit before the final deadline. Making the suggested improvements to the piece will not guarantee that it will be accepted. Please be aware that not all authors will receive feedback, only those who submit before the December 1st deadline and request for their piece to be workshopped will receive it.
