How to Join the U of A Flying Club



To join the Flying Club, simply check our Calender and come to our next meeting. You may also find this information on the main page of the club website. To keep up-to-date with information please join the listserv following the directions at the bottom of this page. The listserv is the clubs primary means of communication, whether it is announcing the next meeting or notifying a last minute change in the meeting location. Joining the listserv is your first step in joining the club. The club dues are $20/semester. Please bring them and give them to the club treasurer (unless this is your first meeting). If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact any of the officers . We hope to see you at the next meeting!




Listserv Information

To stay up to date with the club you need to subscribe to the listserv. A listserv is basically a system by which you can send email to one address and the mail is sent to everyone on the list. All club email except for individual communications will be handled this way. Here is how you subscribe. For this example let's assume your name is John Glenn. Log into your personal email account which you wish to receive email from the flying club at. Send an email to listserv@listserv.arizona.edu with a blank subject and the following in the message body (make sure to insert your name in the ‘firsname’ and ‘lastname’ fields):


subscribe uaflying firstname lastname
end

That's it! The 'end' line tells the computer that the email is sent to to ignore any stuff below that line (many email programs add signatures, etc.). A confirmation email will be sent to you. Follow the instructions in that email to confirm your subscription. Now that you're signed up you can sit back and be content in the fact that you won't miss any important club email and you can also email the whole club. To send a message on the listserv, address it to uaflying@listserv.arizona.edu . However, when emailing the whole club make sure that your message is appropriate (i.e. don't email the whole club just to say hi to one particular member you know, etc).



Rideshare Listserv

We have added a new listserv this year in order to get more people up flying more often. It is designed so that pilots going up on a flight with empty seats can send an e-mail to the new listserv and link up with passengers. This allows more people to go flying and it also helps pilots reduce expenses by splitting costs. To subscribe to the new listserv, follow the same instructions as below. However, change the command line to the following:

subscribe flyouts firstname lastname
end

To send a message to the rideshare listserv, address it to flyouts@listserv.arizona.edu
