Sophia Saucedo - Treasurer

My name is Sophia and I am the treasurer of Wildcats for Christ for the 2007-08 year. I am so hopeful for where the Lord is going to take WFC and I am so blessed to be a part of it. Here is a little about me: I am a senior at the UA graduating in May 2008 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Health Education. After college, I plan on attending the UA College of Nursing, and hopefully continuing my education even further. I’m originally from Phoenix and I graduated from Tolleson High School in 2004 in the top 10 of 500 students and always was pushed to go to college. It was amazing when the UA offered me a scholarship, which I immediately accepted.  Another thing that not many people know about me was that I was one of those people who had two sides to them. During the day, I played the role of the athlete, scholar, and student body president. I always turned everything in on time and was the girl who sat in the front of class with all of the answers.  At night I was a completely different person: I let alcohol and partying define me. Once I moved down to Tucson, my whole life began to be turned upside down. My first semester grades were proof that I was not able to lead the life I had for so long.  At that time I was also in an abusive relationship that I knew was going nowhere, but I thought I was in control of my life.  All the while I was trying to hold myself together which felt like I was living in a nightmare.  In September of ’04, I had been asked to take a survey from an FCC Campus Minister, Krista, and normally I would rudely decline, but that day I agreed to and it was the one decision that I would never regret.  I had never thought about God or the Bible for so long but that day, I checked that I had interest in a bible study. Krista called me shortly after that and after much diligence on her part I finally began to meet with her regularly.  Learning what God had for me and seeing what kind of person I had become was tough for me to go through. I realized that God only wanted me to realize that I had never been in control and I needed Him. I had to come face-to-face with God and make the decision to live for Him or try on my own.  He sacrificed His all so that He could have a relationship with me so I knew what I had to do.  I gave my life to the Lord on January 30, 2005 and immediately everything felt different: I felt as though I came out of the darkness and into the light.  Life has been so awesome and fulfilling in Christ and I could never imagine going on any longer without Him as my Savior.  Any experience, any opportunity, and everything I do, is for the glory of God.  It is an honor to be able to be a leader alongside, Darin, Madison and Marcus this year and I hope that God uses all of us to share His gospel and be a light on the campus of the University of Arizona. Thank you for taking the time to look us up and I hope that you get the opportunity to come to the awesome events we have lined up this year!
