Martin Luther King Jr. & Cesar E. Chavez Scholar Series

LAGSES launched a new speaker series during the spring 2008 semester whose purpose is to bring prominent scientists from around the country to interact with UA students and to discuss the important roles that science and technology can play in bringing about the realization of the ideals that Martin Luther King Jr. and Cesar Chavez worked to achieve.
With this speaker series we have been reaching out to the university community and providing opportunities for students to meet some of today's influential scientists.

We are happy to report the success of this speaker series, during which we welcomed:

  • Dr. Tyrone Hayes, Professor, UC Berkeley,
  • Dr. Charles Vela, President and Chief Scientist for Expertech Solutions and CEO of CAHSEE (Center for the Advancement of Hispanic Science and Engineering Education), and
  • Dr. Neo Martinez, Director of the Pacific Ecoinformatics and Computational Ecology (PEaCE) Lab.

We will continue this series next year, so stay tuned for the next round of major scientific innovators speaking at UA. Thank you everyone who attended and assisted in making the 2008 MLK/CC Speaker Series such a huge success!
