UA Campus Greens Constitution


Revised by consensus October 4, 2005.

Article I – Name

The name of this organization shall be: Campus Greens
This organization is a student organization at the University of Arizona

Article II – Objectives

The objectives of the organization shall be:
  1. To promote interest and involvement in the Green Party at all levels.
  2. To promote activism on campus and in our community which is consistent with the ten key values of the Greens: Grassroots Democracy, Ecological Wisdom, Social Justice, Non-violence, Decentralization, Community Economics, Respect for Diversity, Feminism, Personal/Global Responsibility, and Future Focus.

Article III – Membership

  1. Any student at The University of Arizona is eligible to be an active member and may hold office.
  2. Non-students may act as associate members, but may not vote or hold office.

Article IV – Officers

  1. Election of Officers.
    1. The officers of this organization comprise a steering committee of no fewer than two persons who will choose among themselves a president and treasurer by consensus at the second to last meeting of each year and divide up the remaining duties equitably.
    2. Officers will be approved to join the steering committee by consensus whenever possible. When consensus cannot be reached, a 2/3 majority will be required to approve a member.
    3. A general election of the president and treasurer will take place whenever the Steering Committee is unable to come to consensus.
    4. Officers will assume office for the period of one year.
    5. Campus Greens shall make a good will effort to promote diversity and gender balance within the Steering Committee.
  2. Recall of Officers
    1. Officers are subject to recall for malfeasance in office.
    2. Recall procedures will be initiated at the request of four active members.
    3. A hearing will be conducted at a regular meeting for the presentation of evidence from all concerned parties.
    4. A majority of those active members voting in a recall at the end of the hearing is necessary to remove any office.

Article V – Voting

  1. This constitution and by-laws may be amended by consensus only.
  2. Voting on amendments must be conducted after a minimum notice of 2 weeks.

Article VI – Not-for-profit Statement

This is a not-for-profit organization.

Article VII – Statement of Non-discrimination

This organization shall not discriminate on the basis of age, color, ethnicity, gender, national origin, disability or handicap, race, religion, sexual orientation, Vietnam Era veteran status. This policy will include, but is not limited to, recruiting, membership, organization activities or opportunities to hold office.

Article VIII – Financial Obligations

Members of this organization may determine reasonable dues and fees assessed to each member at the beginning of each semester by consensus only.

A specific member or members, designated by this organization shall be responsible for payment in full of all debts accumulated by the organization not covered by funds on deposit.

Article IX – Statement of Non-Hazing

This organization will not conspire to engage in hazing, participate in hazing, or commit any act that causes or is likely to cause bodily danger, physical harm, or personal degradation or disgrace resulting in physical or mental harm to any fellow student or person attending the institution.

Article X – Statement of Compliance with Campus Regulations

This organization shall comply with all University and campus policies and regulations and local, state, and federal laws.
